Francesco Cenerini

Biography

I am a 5th year Economics Ph.D. Student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Research Interests

I am an environmental economist whose research is centered on quantifying negative externalities of economic growth – such as deforestation in Indonesia or the decline of Welsh – in relation to specific government policies. My approach is to not only find the causes of negative outcomes but also to focus on the silver lining or policy implications for future corrections. I have a broad interest in areas like rural development and the environment, the interplay between crops and biodiversity, the welfare of Indigenous peoples and their languages, and nonmarket good valuation methods. I draw on insights from research in other disciplines to inform my hypotheses and translate their observations into economic models to test.
